What ETHER 1227 Is
ETHER 1227 is a tablet-based assistive communication device designed for neurodivergent individuals participating in court proceedings. It serves the same function as augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices already used in legal settings, extended to serve litigants whose communication barrier is neurological processing, not physical speech impairment.
The device processes courtroom speech, matches it against the litigant's own prepared testimony and documented case evidence, presents a proposed response on screen for the litigant's review, and delivers the approved response aloud in the litigant's own voice. The litigant controls every word. Nothing is spoken without their explicit approval.
How It Works
Listen
The device transcribes courtroom speech in real time, identifying who is speaking and when a question is directed at the litigant.
Match
The question is compared against the litigant's own prepared testimony, anticipated questions, and documented case evidence. The device retrieves information the litigant has already prepared, not new content.
Review
The proposed response appears on screen in large, clear text. The litigant reads it and chooses: Approve, Modify, or Decline. The device waits as long as the litigant needs. There is no time limit on review.
Speak
Only after the litigant approves, the response is spoken aloud in the litigant's own voice. Every approved response is recorded in an immutable audit log linked to its source evidence.
What the Device Does and Does Not Do
The Device Does
- Retrieve information from the litigant's own prepared case data
- Present proposed responses for the litigant's review and approval
- Speak approved responses in the litigant's own cloned voice
- Record every exchange with a full evidentiary source chain
- Generate a post-hearing transparency report for the court and opposing counsel
The Device Does Not
- Generate independent testimony
- Fabricate facts or evidence
- Access information beyond what the litigant entered
- Make legal arguments or draw legal conclusions
- Speak without the litigant's explicit approval
- Store case data on any server or cloud service
Who ETHER 1227 Serves
ETHER 1227 is designed for litigants with documented disabilities that affect courtroom communication, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, aphasia, PTSD with dissociative features, severe social anxiety, selective mutism, and other neurological or cognitive conditions that create barriers to real-time verbal testimony.
These individuals often know the facts of their case completely but cannot deliver them through standard courtroom testimony due to processing speed limitations, difficulty with spontaneous verbal communication, sensory overload, or atypical affect that is misinterpreted as evasiveness.
Security and Privacy
All case data is encrypted on the litigant's own device and never stored on any server.
On-Device Encryption
All data is encrypted using AES-256 with a PIN-derived key. The encryption key exists only in device memory during use and is never written to storage.
No Cloud Storage
Case data never leaves the device. Internet connectivity is used only for real-time speech recognition, response processing, and voice output during the hearing.
Tamper-Evident Audit Log
Every exchange is recorded in an immutable log sealed with a SHA-256 integrity hash. Any modification after sealing is detectable.
Voice Protection
The litigant's cloned voice is registered in a Voice Intellectual Property Registry with cryptographic proof of ownership. The clone is restricted to system use only and is revocable.
Court Transparency
After each hearing, ETHER 1227 generates a Testimony Record Report documenting every response delivered through the device. This report includes:
The full text of every question asked and every response approved by the litigant. The source evidence each response was drawn from, including exhibit numbers and document references. The processing method used for each response. The litigant's authorization timestamp for each response. A session integrity hash proving the report has not been altered.
This report is filed with the court and served on opposing counsel, providing complete transparency to all parties.
Legal Foundation
ETHER 1227 operates within established legal frameworks for disability accommodations in court:
- Americans with Disabilities Act, Title II (42 U.S.C. 12131-12134) -- public entities, including courts, must provide reasonable accommodations
- Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794)
- Colorado Chief Justice Directive 04-07 -- Access to Court Services and Programs for People with Disabilities
- Carrie Ann Lucas Parental Rights for People with Disabilities Act (C.R.S. 24-34-805)
- Established AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device precedent in legal proceedings
AI Governance
ETHER 1227 is built under Human Authority Architecture (HAA), a proprietary AI governance framework that ensures human control at every stage of AI-assisted processing.
